Summer Reading Club
Every summer the Rimbey Community Library takes part in the TD Summer Reading Club. Each week comes with it’s own theme, crafts and activities. Our program begins on July 2nd, we can’t wait to see you there!
Astro Adventures
This year we are blasting off into space to explore the universe. The Summer Reading Club is free and open to any children going into Kindergarten through Grade 6 in the fall. Kids come once a week from July to August for two hours.
Weekly Themes
July:
Week 1 (July 2-4) Astronaut Training
Week 2 (July 9-11) Blast Off
Week 3 (July 16-18) Galaxy Explorers
Week 4 (July 23-25) Space Pirates
August:
Week 5 (July 30-August 1) Moon Landing
Week 6 (August 6-8) Alien Encounter
Week 7 (August 13-15) Planet Voyagers
Week 8 (August 20-22) Star Gazers
Your child will come to one scheduled time a week for two hours. We do different crafts, games and activities each week that correspond to that weeks theme.
We have four times available:
Tuesday 2-4 PM
Wednesday 10-12 PM or 2-4 PM
Thursday 2-4 PM
We get all participants to take part in a reading challenge that helps promote their reading during the summer. We will be sending home a reading tracker booklet with each child for the summer.
How it works
Win Prizes!
Win Prizes!
Track your reading over the summer by colouring in a star for every ten minutes you read. Every 15 stars you colour in you get a prize. Kids can choose to spend their stars or save them to be able to pick from a higher level prize bin.
We are also having a competition between the reading groups, at the end of the summer whichever group has the most stars wins ice cream!

Sami
Hi ! My name is Sami and I am one of the Summer Reading Program coordinators this year. This is my third year running the program. I am heading into my fourth year of Bachelor of Science/Education in the fall at the University of Lethbridge. I'm happy to be back and can't wait for the fun to start!
Julia
Hi there! My name is Julia and I'm the other SRP coordinator for this year. This is my very first year coordinating the Summer Reading Program. I just finished my first year at Red Deer Polytechnic, taking Bachelor of Education. I'm looking forward to spending a summer full of fun with you all!

Please send your child with a water bottle and dressed appropriately for the weather as we typically visit the park during our program.

Yes!! The Summer Reading Club is a free program that the library offers every summer to promote literacy over the summer when children are not in school.

Please fill out the registration form for each child you wish to register.

If your child is not yet able to read on their own you can read to them and still track how long they are listening for. Listening to audio books also counts towards our reading challenges. Listening is still reading!
